Natural Resource Management

Make a difference in the environment with MVCTC’s Natural Resource Management program, where you'll gain hands-on experience in wildlife conservation, forestry, and environmental sustainability. Over two years, you'll learn to conduct wildlife and plant surveys, manage ponds and wetlands, evaluate soil and forestry conditions, and receive HAZWOPER technician training. Participate in real-world training experiences at Five Rivers MetroParks and earn industry-recognized certifications, including Ohio Hunter Safety Training, Ohio Trapper Training, Ohio Nuisance Wildlife Control, and the Level 1 Wildlife Rehabilitation Certification through Brukner Nature Center. Work-based learning, advanced placement, and internship opportunities prepare you for careers in conservation, park management, and environmental science. With college credit options at Edison State Community College, Hocking College, and Sinclair College, you’ll be ready to take the next step toward a career protecting our natural world.

Program Highlights

  • Hands-On Outdoor Learning – Gain real-world experience working outdoors in all weather conditions at MVCTC's multi-habitat land lab, applying scientific principles to the study of ecosystems, wildlife, and plant life.

  • Comprehensive Environmental Training – Study vital topics such as biogeochemical cycles, pollution control, agricultural sustainability, energy needs, and the relationships between air, water, and land, while earning certifications like Ohio Hunter Safety, Trapper Training, and Wildlife Rehabilitation.

  • Professional Development & Internships – Participate in training at Five Rivers Metroparks while also completing a personalized final project that demonstrates your skills in wildlife and plant surveys, soil science, and environmental data analysis.
